After sleeping through 11 hours of our 13 hour flight, we've arrived in Taipei! We were able to sleep comfortably in our exit row window seats thanks to Danny's masterful flirtation with Wei-Shin (Sophie) at the EVA check-in counter. She was the nicest check-in lady we've ever encountered, and we even commented on this to her supervisor. Being the only non-Asians in the Tom Bradley Intl terminal at LAX, we werewell prepared for our arrival here.
After getting off the transfer bus into the heart of the city, the first store we spotted was interestingly named "Santa Barbara Polo and Raquet Club". So I guess we travelled across the Pacific Ocean to see what we left at home. There was even a giant picture of the SB polo fields. And a block away was California Fitness. Despite the fact that no one speaks English, everyone seems to love sporting American sayings on their tshirts.
We've walked around town in the 80 deg humid weather and sampled the local street food. Ashwin even accidently dropped a 10 NT$ coin in the cabbage pot when trying to figure out how much to pay. It definitely added to the flavor. We've spent 3USD collectively on food and have mangaged to fill ourselves up. Hope we don't regret it later...
We're in search of the Eight Elephants Hostel where we'll be spending the night.

ReplyDeleteDon't forget to fill up on a little snake blood and "stinky tofu", two favorites.
ReplyDeletestreet vendor food? hmmmmm... (will I ever be able to NOT react like a mom?)
ReplyDeleteMove this shit to a tumblr blog - it's much nicer and easier to post on. Good luck with everything though
ReplyDeleteMad envy on the food prices, guys -- I dropped 48 euro for a lunch in Paris four days ago.
ReplyDeleteI am impressed! You guys seem to be squeezing the best out of every day.
